A Majestic Word

Every day of empty nesting is a struggle for me. Much like the waves of grief, it hits me when I'm not expecting it. A memory, a picture, my house, any of these things can trigger a crying frenzy. To steal from English television, I feel "gutted". To say the least, my creativity is stifled.

I'm trying, though. Therefore, the blog will suffer for a hot minute. I'm trying to write my way through it. I'm going to take the low hanging fruit and keep the blogs easy. Today, it's phraseology. Someone used the term "The Royal We." I snickered and played it off like I understood the meaning. But...I didn't :-(

At least it made me thirst for understanding so I looked it up. Well, quite honestly that was daunting! According to https://wordhistories.net/2021/10/31/royal-we/, it was a phrase on loan from the French even used by Napoleon Bonaparte. There is soooooo much more to it, but I didn't have the desire to search it out further. Blah.

To simplify, throughout history monarchs have used it in place of the self reference "I". Who knows maybe that's where "We the people" came from. Doubt it, but food for thought. In short, if you want to feel like a princess this weekend, refer to yourself as "we" instead of "I". It's an easy way to transform yourself to royalty in one word.
