Buzzing Morning Story

This morning was interesting. I need all the practice writing I can get, and I have a slightly humorous story to tell. I'm learning to turn my experiences into writing development opportunities. Maybe you will join me in some experimental writing?!?!?! Hope you enjoy :-)

Caught up in her norm of the early morning rush, Shelby slammed the aging vanity drawer shut. It was a pet peeve of hers to run into things. Especially drawers left hanging out half opened. She carefully leaned over and studied the puffy bags under her eyes. "You are getting ollllllddddddd," she declared running her index finger along the surface. Suddenly, a buzzing noise drew her attention away.

The wood floor creaked as she stepped into the darkened hallway and looked around. The buzzing was further away now. Perplexed, she stepped back onto the cold tile in the bathroom and the noise grew louder. One by one she opened each cabinet door and stuck her head in.

"Sounds like the hairdryer." She pulled out the sleek handheld dryer and pressed it to her ear so she could hear it over the bathroom fan. Nothing. "Where's my phone?"

She ran out and found it on her bedside table. Bending back down on the bathroom floor her knees creaked as she folded in. I hope I can get back up. Poised to capture the cause, she hit the video button on her cell phone camera.

What if the pipes are getting ready to burst? She pulled back and rested on her knees just in case. She would send that video to her landlord when she arrived at work later. She was hesitant to leave but the time crunch squeezed her nerves. She clasped the edge of the blue tile vanity and pulled herself up. She quickly finished smoothing tinted moisturizer on her face and misted her white and black hair with hairspray. "Time to go."

She stepped out to leave when it hit her. The buzzing started when I slammed the drawer! She hurried back to the vanity and yanked the drawer open when the buzzing sound doubled. She rustled through her make-up and self-care items until her fingers found it. The electronic facial hair trimmer vibrated like a rattlesnake warning its prey.

Shelby turned it off and bustled to her car snickering. At least she knew she could mark her apartment safe on social media from bursting pipes. And she had a funny to tell at work. It would be a fun Friday after all.
