Catching a Ride
I hate to admit it but I like it when I catch a mistake in print. Yeah, yeah I know. Go ahead and judge me for being small or childish. But that's not it. It's the fact that I've been to several writer's conferences and the self love some of these authors carry borders arrogance.
So, yeah, sad to say it makes me happy. I recently received an email from a writer's conference and the subject line read, "Get Ride of Gimmicks" and I had to read and reread. After evaluation, I discovered this was, in fact, a mistake and something rose up in me.
It hit me that the accomplished writers made a mistake. A published author let a typo slide through to a group of "rookie" writers. Sweet victory. I saw a hole in their armor and realized they're just humans too. Nobody's getting it right all the time.
It felt like affirmation. If they aren't perfect then I don't have to be either to be published. Hope. Sometimes that's all you need to keep you going.
