Man, I love a good question. Today, someone asked me if it was a Southern Thang (excuse my street talk) for hosts to walk their guests around and show them their homes. I didn't know the answer but wanted to know the answer, so I hit the internet browser. I so badly wanted to find a tradition written somewhere. I searched and searched. Nothing.

Taking it to the next level, I asked a living history book born in 1928, my grandma. She felt it was a pride thing. People were proud of their houses and wanted to show them off. That seemed too simple for me. No back story. Not enough depth.

So, I stepped down to the next generation born in 1946, my mom. I'll be danged if she didn't echo the same answer! However, she added her thought that if someone is taking the time to visit your home, you should show them around. In essence, a hospitality thing.

In my internet search, I did find that other people consider it being hospitable. I wish there was more of a back story, but I sure couldn't find one. I guess I'll have to settle for the wisdom and opinions of two generations and let that be enough.
