Deportation Brings Peace

It's all over the news that President Biden is deporting illegal immigrants back to Venezuela.

Sometimes I feel like that's what we need to do with bombarding thoughts. Deport them from the brain. Give them the boot! Serve them notice that they have wore out their welcome. It's important because for me, a random memory can hit at the wrong moment and leg sweep me.

I can detach like the best of them sometimes and then there are the days when I don't see it coming and the past gets a lick in on me. It's not like I can control what flies in, I can only choose my reaction to it.

I think in therapy they teach you to replace the thought with a "happy" thought. Normally, that would work. But when you're in the middle of a hailstorm of change, I have to say, thoughts can get the upper hand. It's an unfortunate reality.

That's my goal this weekend. If a hurtful thought lands in my brain, I'm going to deport it. If I let them go unchecked, they have all the power. I need peace in my life, I crave it. I don't know that "happy" thoughts will do the trick but determining to move forward and make new memories will. I deserve this. Peace, hope, and dreams come true. There are a slew of people in my life - and people wanting in my life - who agree.

You deserve it too. Carve out some time this weekend for you. As for me, I'm wrapping up this laptop and heading for the cute little coffee shop downtown I've been eyeing. First, I'll take a brisk walk in the Fall air and let my new life begin.
