Finish THIS Story: Writing Prompt

As a former writing group leader, I was tasked with discovering new writing assignments or exercises. These things keep writers alert and ready to go when an opportunity arises. At one point we were all going through hard circumstances so the exercise was to write the ending to our current struggle. The desired ending.

Professional writers refer to these as "writing prompts". They are events or ideas that kick start a story. That being explained, I have one for you. The other day, I was driving to work in the dark. I was merely feet away from the entrance to my workplace when a man randomly leapt out of the front door of a house I pass every day. Mind distracted, I was extremely startled.

The sky was still black and streetlights were on. It was hard to see and I wasn't expecting the action to happen in my peripheral vision. Add to the mix that he was wearing all dark clothes. He was dark skinned, had long dread locks, and appeared to be in a hurry. It shook me because I didn't see it coming. My mind wandered to why did he jump out of the house suddenly and move so swiftly? Was he simply just late for work?

Or, was it nefarious and he was escaping an act he just committed against someone? Proof I watch too many crime dramas! I'll leave it up to you to decide. If you're looking for a good writing exercise, this is an interesting prompt. Hope it spurs you to write a good story!
