Gen X vs. Gen Z in Texting

I heard something on the radio today that made my skin burn. Well, admittedly that could have been the warm Florida sunshine breaking through the driver's side window. But, there I was having a good day cruising down the road when the young DJ (if they're still called that) explained Gen Z's take on text messaging.

Safely tucked in Gen X, texting irritates me. Only because it enables us to butcher the English language without judgement. I'm the old fogey that gets edgy when I spot a spelling error. Like when I drove past a business today and noticed one in a high traffic area. Boldly painted on the side of their building were the words, "Why buy new when you can buy use." Yeah, you saw it. Use instead of used.

Made my eyes burn! Anyway, then the DJ explains Gen Z believes that using punctuation in texting is passive aggressive. At that point I gladly admitted I was a dinosaur. When manners and proper use of the English language are passive aggressive, I'm out.

Signed,

Happily stuck in the past
