ISO a Man with a Toolbox
On the dark and misty journey through the hills driving to work today, an old song looped in my mind. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? When I got in the office, I looked up the lyrics I heard rolling around only I found that I was studying the wrong song. But man did those lyrics hit me between the eyes. I was thinking Bee Gees, but it turned out that it was Iggy Pop's song that got me.
Iggy's song, How Do Ya Fix a Broken Part? popped right off the page and into my psyche. The lyrics seemed so intricately parallel to my love loss. "How do you fix a broken part?/How come the sun's too bright to live?/Tell me how to fix it/How do ya fix a broken heart?/Who said this life's too much to bear?/Just tell me how to fix it."
Seems like a fair question. How do you fix a broken heart? Especially one like mine that's grieving multiple losses at once. Iggy's song says, "So take off your hard hats boys/In a moment of silence/
Yeah, get out the toolbox boys/You'll fix me I know it."
Why can't it be that easy? Well, I like the part where they insinuate that it can be fixed. I don't want to get past it. Or, put it out of my mind. I want to fix it. I don't want to drag my mess through the next (and hopefully last) love door. I want to walk through ready, healed, fixed, unafraid. Leading with my heart, not dragging it in tow. Who knows, maybe a man with a toolbox will do the trick!
