Let There Be Edit
So I wrote this book in one month. Unfortunately I'm not one of those authors who writes perfection and never has to edit. Poetry? Sure. Greeting card verse? Yeah. Those are subjective and just leak out of your heart. There's no judgment to be had.
As I've covered before, books and stories are different. There is a formula to follow. Story structure is paramount in creating a product for publish. That said, back to the book I wrote in a month.
I had been fine tuning it for a couple of years when a friend, who is an avid reader and writer, made the remark that I needed to make sure my story angle was solid and stood out from everything else out there with a similar story line. She wasn't wrong. You do always need an original angle.
The unfortunate result, though, was that it slowed my edit. As a thinker, it caused me to go into overthinking mode. Now I'm left-braining it and not writing. I'm thinking. Yuk. I always get hung up here. Until I had a slight breakthrough yesterday. I was reading an article where Cher, a former rocker, wanted to abduct her grown son and get him help for drug addiction.
Bingo! Lightning struck. I had a new fire in my writing belly. My story is somewhat parallel to this idea. I'm still thinking through it, but it's to reshape my story. Not to overthink it and let it die on my Chromebook. Honestly, the moment felt like what Author, Squire Rushnell calls a God Wink. It was affirmation that a loving parent will go to any lengths to make sure their child is okay. Time to sign off and get back into editing. I can't wait to finish this story.
