Passionate Life

Yesterday I witnessed my son going after his dream. Since it was a holiday, I was home and experienced the entire process from start to finish. His end goal was to participate in the Open Mic Night at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN.

To participate, he had to go online and vie for a spot in the lineup. Once that was complete, then came song selection. After he ran through two songs and picked one, then he had to practice it over and over. Next, was the wardrobe selection.

Then, we drove to Nashville and got in line. There are so many talented writers and singers that compete for these spots. I played sports when I was young, so I understand competition. The problem with me was I was ALWAYS more interested in making friends than competing against them.

Back to him, he was so brave. He walked in there like a rockstar with no fear. He was humble and kind to everyone and didn't back down when they called his number. Some of these exhibitionists could seriously win on The Voice and yet they showcase their talent at The Bluebird. One of them even recently scored a record deal.

I was so proud of him for living a passionate life. He doesn't let their status or talent level impede his. He knows he's got something and he's running after it. To me, that's the way life should be spent...in pursuit of dreams. Then if you reach them, reaching back and helping others reach theirs. It's very fulfilling and won't let you down if you're doing it for the right reasons. What an exhilarating ride with no regrets.
