Research and Making It Real
My mom got a thrill out of me folding into the trunk of my car and asking her to shut the lid. In a matter of seconds I was ready for that lid to open again. It was research for a scene in a book I was writing. Just like when I ripped a piece of duct tape to capture the sound of it.
Today was no different when I decided to walk my lake property and then the lake. I knew those noises and sights would come in handy for two different book projects. Not only did I get to research, I also got inspired.
That led me to start another exercise in the 5-4-3-2-1:
The purity in the air floated into my nose. Sweet liberty from crowds. Twigs snapped under my feet, breaking under the weight of me. Residual leaves crunched under my foot as I stepped through carefully. Warm days in Florida bring out slithery predators so each footstep was taken with trepidation. Escalated winds swept through and were trapped in between a canopy of trees. They searched for a way out. The sunshine parted the way between trees revealing the blueness of the choppy water. At the shore, I placed a flowered foot in and let the sound of the breaking waves roll in. I. Was. Free.
