Rough Love
Love doesn't fight fair. In fact, some may argue it will singlehandedly kick your a$%. For some, it will leave you for dead, gasping for breath while sinking in your own tears. It saunters away, doesn't look back over its shoulder, and lets the smoke and ashes cover you until you fade to black.
Recovery can take YEARS, if it happens at all. Bonus, for the rest of your life you get to cry, long, obsess, and finally stuff all of the details to merely survive. That person can become a tiny idol in your heart. On the bad days, you take it off the shelf, dust it, caress it, kiss it, and cry as though it just happened.
Is it any wonder why love - and love gone wrong - are keeping songwriters employed? In my son's songwriting journey, we learned from officials in the field that the number one selling type of song is LOVE GONE WRONG. People are capitalizing off pain. Still. George Jones wasn't the only one crooning about love loss.
Sucks, doesn't it? I have good news though. You can start again. It may never be the same, but who knows? It could be better! If I hadn't started over when I broke up with my fiancé at 24-years-old, my beautiful son wouldn't be here.
Don't let love hand your arse to you. Get up, get back in the fight, and go another round. Who knows what you could win in the end?
