Song of the Storm

After surviving Hurricane Michael alone in my home on October 10, 2018, certain storms make my knees weak. Storms with strong winds. Not thunder and lightning, but winds. I woke up to it roaring this morning sounding like it wanted to blow my house down. Like the wolf character in the fairy tale The Three Little Pigs.

Remember that one? Just so I can get you into my shoes if you've never experienced a monstrous CAT 5 hurricane trying to blow your house away while you're in it, the wolf threatened the pigs who wouldn't let him in. They responded they wouldn't open the door promising on the hairs on their "chinny chin chins". But the intimidating wolf countered with this. "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down."

Thankfully, it didn't happen but I can promise you the threat was imminent. It was very real. Since surviving that threat, I've learned there is a sound that is mightier than the roaring wind because it whistles hope. It is the gentle rolling melody of a bird's song. Thanks to a bird's song, I knew the hurricane in 2018 and the storm this morning were over. The chorus of tweets outside my window rang out like a phone call from God. What a precious sound! Always a sign that the worst is over.

For peace in troubled days, let that sink in. The. Worst. Is. Over.

  • Sing your song

  • lure me in

  • I need you

  • help me go on~

  • Your song of hope

  • makes me want

  • to get up

  • face the world~

  • Rebuild and lay

  • brick after brick

  • seal them with faith

  • and not let go.
