Songwriter Spotlight
As I've mentioned in earlier posts, in this new year I'd like to highlight up and coming writers. Totally going to play favorites today and shine the spot on my one and only, Nate Robbins, Songwriter to the stars. Well, not yet. But he's got the goods, and I can't wait to witness him selling his first song and soar to the top with a breakout Number 1. Here are the lyrics to his latest and greatest, Jack and Coke.
Little Jack's nine years old
Things aren’t the best at home
His grades at an all-time low
And Katie Lynn went to the dance with Joe
Sometimes he wants to escape
Sometimes he wants to run away
Sometimes he zones out gets alone in the back of the room
When nobody’s lookin' he dreams of gloom
Sometimes he pretends he’s mixing drinks with a smoke
Black and gold
Jack and coke
Another nine go by ain’t much changed
Same old pains with different names
By now he’s an artist at getting away
But he’s tall enough now to grab top shelf whiskey
Sometimes he zones out gets alone out in the back of the room
When nobody’s lookin' he dreams of gloom
Sometimes he pretends he’s mixing drinks with a smoke
Black and gold
Jack and coke
He’s twenty-eight now the papers are in
He's lost his wife but not his gin
He’s made such a habit
He’s made such a crutch
When life gets hard he just pulls out a cup
