Sylvester Stallone and Writing Rocky
If you haven't watched it, the Netflix documentary Sly centering around Sylvester Stallone is a pretty interesting story. As they dig in during interviews the how and why the epic Rocky movies were created is unearthed.
Apparently, Sylvester was an aspiring actor who couldn't land an acting job. Rejected time after time for roles, he got tired of the rigmarole, and cut his own path. This is one of my favorite ideas. That you don't have to get stuck in a certain trajectory that everyone else says you have to in order to accomplish your goals.
I remember when I found myself single in 2004 with a baby, I bought inspiring cards to uplift myself. One of them said, "Cut your own path". I loved that one and posted it in my room. Anyway, back to Sly, that's exactly what he did. He added "Writer" to his resume to go with "Actor". Then, he got to add "Filmmaker".
To let Hollywood know he was getting in like it or not, he actually wrote the Rocky role for himself. He didn't even know how to write a script. And fellow writers...he long handed it! Re-SPECT for that! Love the ways of old. He copied the formatting or writing style from another script. I've done that before :-) Love his ingenuity. And for goodness' sake, look where it got him.
All I'm saying is if you want it bad enough you figure it out. Not much is flat handed to you in this life. You have to work for it. Dream it. Scrap for it. And sometimes, cut your own path to make sure it happens. We have two choices...make excuses or MAKE IT HAPPEN!
