When Lightning Strikes...You Write!
Last night was a rough sleep. I guess with my son and I both fighting sickness and both on antibiotics the meds are disrupting our eating and sleeping schedules. I was so tired when I looked at my phone at 3:52 a.m. and then again at 5 a.m. I was determined to force my body to go back to sleep.
Those were just two of the random times that I woke up. The weirdest thing was, when I went back to sleep those last two times I had bizarre, meaningful dreams. They were strategies. One I worked for a marketing company and was told to go into a team meeting with a client. I was a new employee and didn't know what protocol was so I just went because my boss told me to.
Apparently, the client was either a drug addiction foundation or a rehab center. In the dream, I was sitting on dead ready to throw out ideas because of the book I'm writing and the research I've conducted to write my book. I was bubbling inside because I had a firm knowledge of the point of view of the addict.
I took the preemptive strikes and threw out ideas before the time was right. I said their slogan should be something about starting life over fresh. Everyone ignored me. Then I threw out another one maybe about redefining yourself or coming back to yourself. I don't remember exactly, but the response was cricket cricket, again. I couldn't stop the ideas from leaking out.
I was having fun and they were rolling out of me. After I woke up, I realized why. The meeting reminded me of when I worked for On the Coast Magazine in Destin, Fla. the publisher and I would brainstorm together. We would lay out the stories and bounce ideas off of each other for the cover. It was one of my favorite parts of the job.
Anyway, in the dream I threw out one last idea before I woke up, "Time to dream again". My mentor in the dream literally rolled his eyes. I don't remember the rest of the dream. I had another short one after that though and all I remember was the "angle" idea for my book came to me! No more thinking, worrying, searching it just appeared. I had a lightning strike in a dream that will revolutionize my story. Time to get back at writing it again.
