When You Don't See Skin Cancer Coming
If you've been following this blog, to say that it is random is probably an understatement. The way I see it is this blog is good practice for me. Random thoughts on anything are writing practice. And if I can help someone along the way while practicing, even better!
That's why I wanted to share my skin cancer experience with you. Prior to 2019 I had this spot on my left forearm. It was a pinkish red and oblong shaped. Sometimes, it itched. Not violently because I have struggled with Eczema over the years, so I am well-versed in violent itching.
I let it go. I don't even know how long it was there. I never considered skin cancer because it wasn't a mole that had changed shapes or color. I had visited my dermatologist several times to inspect spots fitting in that category. But I didn't see this one coming. There was nothing suspicious about it other than the fact that it wouldn't go away.
I finally broke down and checked it out with my dermatologist. He performed a biopsy and a little over a week later I found out it was skin cancer. I had to go back for more treatment and that was it. If something feels off, get it checked out. As the old adage goes, "Better safe than sorry."
