Who's Sitting in My Chair?

At the end of our lives who gives an account for all we did or didn't do? Imagine the elderly and alone version of yourself reflecting back on your life. Are you proud of you? Do the decisions still make sense? Do the why's add up?

I hope mine do. There's nothing I can do about the regrets. And as a childhood bestie said to me this weekend, "Who's going to come and get us if we make a mistake? The regret police?" I liked that question. Our lives are happening now. The good decisions, the bad decisions, they're part of living. We can't give up and coast. We've got to push forward.

No one gets it right ALL the time. But decisions are still important. That's where the living is happening. And truly, the only opinion that matters about your life is the person sitting in your chair. You face that person at the end of your life.

Sure, people have profound advice and some have selfish advice. But what do you say? What do you want? Take care of yourself. Make you matter. Listen to the beat of your own heart and do your best to make it beat faster. Faster with fear. Faster with love. Faster with risk. Faster with yearning.

At least take a small portion of every day to talk to that person in your chair and find out what makes them happy. Then, go after it!
