Writing Limericks for St. Patty's Day
Welp, it appears I am not an overnight YouTube sensation. Haha! But, I had a great time and learned a lot. Like keep it short stupid! Anyway, I will keep at it. In case you haven't had time to watch the lengthy video, I can summarize the fun stuff.
In honor of St. Patty's Day this coming weekend, I spent a month off and on learning to write limericks. Not my favorite thing, but when it comes to writing any challenge is a good challenge. Promotes growth!
Here's how to do it:
It's a sing-songy, bouncy rhythm in this format:
These 2 lines rhyme:
Line 1 - 8 to 9 syllables
Line 2 - 8 to 9 syllables
These 2 lines rhyme:
Line 3 - 5 to 6 syllables
Line 4 - 5 to 6 syllables
This line rhymes with Lines 1 and 2:
Line 5 - 8 to 9 syllables
Limericks are generally known for being funny and can be sexual in nature. Basically, you're telling a story in 5 lines (or stanzas).
Here are a couple of my silly attempts:
A girl loves a guy forever,
and win his heart she endeavors,
until his eye roams,
and takes him from home,
then she plucks it out like heather.
A writer avoids their computer,
afraid their writings will be neutered,
they stuff them inside,
'til they're buried alive,
then there's no need for a computer.
A gal learned her man had cheated,
then their discussion became heated,
she threatened to kill,
he let out a shrill,
now his man parts are deleted.
Hope you have fun creating!
